What If

Penny made a face, scrunching up her nose and narrowing her eyes. "What's that you're wearing, Nick? You look like a human slip-n-slide."

Nick grinned. "Yeah, it does, kind of. But it's the only kind of material I can change with my body. You don't want me running around naked, do you?"

"Not very practical, all that blue. Can't you give yourself clothes?"

Now Nick made a face, scrunching his nose and narrowing his eyes to mirror Penny's earlier expression. "Look. I'm not running around naked even if I can appear to have clothes on. You try it on North Avenue sometime, see how you like it."

"Well." Penny nodded. "It does get cold. You still look like a slip-n-slide though."

"Ha. Watch this." The boy vanished; suddenly Brice stood in his place, dressed in jeans and a coat. "Come on, kids. You'd better get to practicing! Or else you'll be a no-good like me!" Brice melted into the brown-haired youngster again, and Nick and Penny doubled over with laughter.

"That's good, that's good," Penny gasped between giggles. "Now do James."

"What about me?" James asked, coming around the corner.

"Nothing, just practicing," Nick said solemnly. "I think you should buy stock in Alister and Ashleigh. They makes great stuff together. See my new clothes?" Nick strutted for James.

Penny scoffed, but she did look proud. "You can't buy stock in people."

Nick balled his fists on his hips. "Well, they should start a company, then we could buy their stock." Nick nodded.

James smiled. "You look so much like your sister when you do that. Come on, let's go. Carrie and Eden are waiting for us at the restaurant."

It's your usual great writing, but I have to say I am very confused by this post...
By the title and the content it seems like a dream or daydream about if Penny had a brother...who was a shape-shifter?
Good writing, but I'd love for some more context.

You were supposed to be left a little confused at least, because the dream was inspired by that whispered accusation from the Thinny. But you're right on - Penny daydreams about having a brother who was a shape-shifter.

The fact that her brother wouldn't be her age... and that if he were alive, her parents might still be, and that she might not have ever met James... doesn't factor into Penny's imaginings. She can't conceive of a life like that.

Also thought it would be cute if his name were Nickelas... teeheehee...

Cool, I'm glad that I got his power right, though it was fairly obvious :)
I think that it's very like Penny to imagine him as being her own age and to assume that they'd be with James.
Great game last night! I'm looking forward to next week!
